The City of Coon Rapids is on the lookout for contractors to undertake significant upgrades at its water treatment facilities. As of a notice issued on the city's official website, sealed bids are being invited for an improvement project poised to replace and enhance emergency generator systems vital to the city's water treatment operations.

Interested parties have until 10 a.m. on July 25, 2024, to submit their bids to the Coon Rapids Public Works, located at 1831 111th Avenue NW, Coon Rapids, MN. The crux of the improvement, dubbed the 2024 EAST WATER TREATMENT PLANT GENERATOR IMPROVEMENTS, involves swapping out the aging 60 KW emergency generator for a more robust 130 KW system at the East Water Treatment Plant / Well 21. Moreover, a new 450 KW emergency generator is planned for the East Booster / Well 8 – a significant step up in capacity aimed at ensuring the resilience of the city's water infrastructure.

According to the announcement, the opening of the bids will take place at the aforementioned public works building following the submission deadline. City staff will be on hand to open and read aloud the submissions, ensuring a transparent process. Once the bids are read and tabulated, the Coon Rapids City Council will review them during a council meeting slated for 7 p.m., Monday, August 5, 2024.

This bid solicitation comes at a time when many municipalities are looking to reinforce their infrastructure against a backdrop of increasing environmental challenges. Not only does the upgraded generator capacity offer a safeguard during unforeseen disruptions, it also represents a commitment to maintaining uninterrupted water services for Coon Rapids residents. As utility infrastructures across the region age, these types of proactive improvements become more crucial to ensuring the reliability and safety of community water systems.
