Heroic Father And Son In St. Louis Park Honored For Saving Child From Drowning At Pool Party
A father and son duo from St. Louis Park have been rightly lauded for their quick thinking and courageous actions earlier this year, actions which undoubtedly changed the trajectory of one family's life forever. On Nov. 26, the St. Louis Park Police Department recognized Lance and his 12-year-old son Adore, awarding them Civilian Commendations for saving a young child from drowning. The heroics took place at a local pool party.
According to a social media post by the City of St. Louis Park, the commendable sequence began when young Adore spotted that a child was in trouble in the water. With the clarity that escapes many in moments of high peril, Adore alerted his father and managed to haul the unconscious child from the pool. Without missing a beat, Lance commenced chest compressions and carefully positioned the child in the recovery pose, facilitating the expulsion of water that could have heralded a tragic outcome.
"Lance then began chest compressions on the child and placed him into the recovery position when the child began coughing up water," the post further detailed the urgency and the timely intervention. The recognition ceremony saw Officer David Ballard, the first emergency responder to arrive on the scene, posing alongside Lance, Adore, and Chief Bryan Kruelle, rounding out a tableau of community and service.
As the St. Louis Park officials relayed, the importance of swimming with a buddy, avoiding distractions, and never leaving children unattended by the water cannot be overstressed. Furthermore, the potent utility of CPR knowledge was brought to the fore through Lance's life-saving compressions. Their actions are a clarion call to the rest of us: be prepared, be watchful, and be ready to act.
The City of St. Louis Park extends its heartfelt thanks to Lance and Adore for their role in keeping the community safe. Quoting directly from the City's post, "Thank you to Adore and Lance in helping keep St. Louis Park safe!"
