ANOKA COUNTY NEWS | Man Killed After Becoming Stuck While Attempting to Cross in Front of Train

ANOKA, MN (July 25, 2026). A man was killed Friday night after authorities said he became stuck while attempting to cross railroad tracks in front of an approaching train in Anoka.
The Anoka Police Department, Ramsey Police Department, Anoka-Champlin Fire Department and Anoka County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 9:02 p.m. to the railroad crossing near the 2700 block of Ferry Street.
According to information released by the Sheriff’s Office, the adult man was attempting to cross in front of a BNSF Railway train when he became stuck. The train struck him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities had not publicly identified the man as of Saturday afternoon.
Incident disrupted access near county fairgrounds
The collision occurred south of the Anoka County Fairgrounds while the Anoka County Fair was underway.
Law enforcement officials said the incident interrupted traffic and prevented some fairgoers from reaching vehicles parked on the opposite side of the railroad crossing. Officers and other emergency personnel assisted people affected by the disruption.
The railroad crossing is located along Highway 47, also known as Ferry Street, a major route connecting Anoka with Ramsey and other communities north of the city.
Investigation remains underway
The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains in its early stages. Additional information is expected after investigators complete their initial work and the man’s family has been notified.
Authorities have not announced any indication of criminal activity. No information has been released about how the man became stuck or whether crossing signals were operating at the time.
The Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation with assistance from the responding agencies.
