MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Death Investigation Underway After Body Found Near Mississippi River in Minneapolis
Authorities responded at approximately 6 p.m. to a report of a body near East River Parkway and Oak Street, an area close to the University of Minnesota’s East Bank campus.
Responding officers located the person and confirmed the individual was dead.
Officials have not released the person’s name, age or gender. The cause and manner of death also remain undetermined.
Park Police have not said whether investigators found evidence of violence or whether the death is considered suspicious. Authorities have released no information about how long the person may have been at the location before being discovered.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to conduct an examination, determine the cause and manner of death and confirm the person’s identity. The name ordinarily would not be released until relatives have been notified.
The wooded areas and parkland along East River Parkway form part of the Mississippi Gorge Regional Park system. The location is near university facilities, residential neighborhoods and heavily traveled pedestrian and bicycle routes.
This case is separate from the discovery of decomposed human remains Sunday morning along the shoreline of Bde Maka Ska. The two bodies were found at different locations, and authorities have not announced any connection between the investigations.
Park Police have not disclosed whether they are seeking witnesses or asking the public for information. Additional details will depend on the medical examiner’s findings and the continuing investigation.
Until those findings are released, the person’s identity and the circumstances surrounding the death remain unknown.
