Minneapolis police say a physical confrontation preceded the gunfire in the Lowry Hill East neighborhood.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (September 4, 2026). Minneapolis police arrested a man on suspicion of murder Wednesday night after another man was fatally shot in the street near Bryant Avenue South, only hours after the mass shooting at Shoreline Plaza.

Officers responded at approximately 9:30 p.m. to the area of West 22nd Street and Bryant Avenue South in the Lowry Hill East neighborhood.

They found a man lying in the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police and emergency medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police arrested another man at the scene and recovered a firearm.

The suspect was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on suspicion of murder.

Investigators believe a physical altercation occurred before the shooting, although police have not yet publicly described what caused the confrontation or identified the people involved.

The shooting occurred only hours after two people were killed and multiple others wounded at Shoreline Plaza near Loring Park.

The incidents are not known to be connected.

The proximity in time, however, meant the Bryant Avenue killing unfolded while Minneapolis police and other agencies were still dealing with the aftermath of one of the city's most serious shooting incidents of the year.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is expected to identify the victim after notification of relatives.
