MINNEAPOLIMEDIA SPORTS | McDaniels Extension Headlines Quiet Monday as Wild Head to Edmonton and Vikings Turn Toward Colts

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (October 20, 2026). Minnesota’s seven major professional sports franchises produced no game results Monday, October 19, but the Timberwolves supplied significant news away from competition: forward Jaden McDaniels reportedly agreed to a one-year, $40 million contract extension as Minnesota approached its regular-season opener.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the agreement Monday night, citing McDaniels’ representatives. The additional season would keep him under contract through 2029–30. The development gives the Timberwolves a substantial personnel commitment to carry into Wednesday’s opener against Miami.

Tuesday’s competition centers on the Minnesota Wild, who visit Edmonton at 8 p.m. Central time to begin a five-game road trip. The Vikings have completed their Week 6 bye and are preparing to resume their unbeaten season against Indianapolis on Sunday. Minnesota United remains in its late-season playoff pursuit, while the Twins and Lynx have finished their seasons and the Frost await November training camp.

Timberwolves: McDaniels Agreement Arrives Before Opening Night

The reported McDaniels extension adds one year to his existing contract. It should not be confused with a new one-year agreement replacing the seasons already remaining on his deal.

Sportsnet, citing Charania’s reporting, said McDaniels averaged a career-best 14.8 points last season, along with 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists. He played 31.7 minutes per game and contributed to a Minnesota defense that ranked eighth in the league.

Those numbers help explain why the agreement matters beyond its dollar value. McDaniels combines substantial playing time with defensive responsibility and growing offensive production. Retaining him extends Minnesota’s commitment to a player whose role reaches both ends of the floor.

The Timberwolves did not play Monday and have no game Tuesday. Their regular season begins Wednesday, October 21, at Miami, with tipoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Central time.

The distinction between the reported agreement and an official team announcement remains important. The contract news is supported by reporting attributed to McDaniels’ representatives; the terms should continue to be attributed accordingly.

Wild: Edmonton Opens Five-Game Road Test

The Wild return to competition Tuesday after Sunday’s 2–1 victory over Columbus at Grand Casino Arena. Minnesota enters the road trip at 6–2–1.

Kirill Kaprizov supplied Sunday’s deciding goal on a power play at 3:06 of the second period. Danila Yurov also scored, while Jesper Wallstedt stopped 13 shots. Columbus goaltender Cam Talbot made 32 saves, requiring Minnesota to work through a strong opposing performance despite its advantage in opportunities.

Kaprizov’s goal was his league-leading 10th through nine games. Reuters reported that he joined a small group of active players to reach double figures in nine or fewer games, giving Minnesota an exceptional source of early-season offense.

The next challenge comes at Rogers Place, where Edmonton hosts Minnesota at 8 p.m. Central time Tuesday. The game is scheduled and had not been played at the time of this report.

Sunday’s victory gives the Wild a positive result to carry west, but the five-game trip will require them to sustain their play away from Saint Paul. Their last outing showed the value of contributions beyond Kaprizov: Yurov provided the opening goal, and Wallstedt protected the lead through the remainder of the game.

Tuesday begins a new stretch of the schedule rather than extending Sunday’s result. No outcome against Edmonton should be attached to this report before the game is completed.

Vikings: Bye Week Is Over, With Indianapolis Next

The Vikings did not play Monday, but they are no longer entering their bye. Their Week 6 break has concluded, and the schedule now turns to Indianapolis.

Minnesota hosts the Colts at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, October 25, at noon Central time. CBS is scheduled to televise the game, with radio coverage through KFAN and the Vikings Audio Network.

The Vikings remain 5–0 after defeating New Orleans 23–13 in their last game October 11. Their unbeaten record survived the idle weekend without another result being added.

The Indianapolis game begins a four-game stretch that includes two divisional road contests. Minnesota visits Detroit November 1, returns home for a Monday night game against Buffalo November 9 and travels to Green Bay November 15.

That sequence gives the return from the bye immediate significance. The Vikings have an opportunity to extend their winning start at home before facing a schedule that alternates between division opponents and a prime-time meeting with Buffalo.

The published schedule lists noon Central starts for Detroit and Green Bay and a 7:15 p.m. Central kickoff against Buffalo. Those are upcoming assignments, not results or evidence that Minnesota’s unbeaten run will continue.

Minnesota United: Jackson Recognized After Comeback Against St. Louis

Minnesota United did not play Monday or Tuesday. Its latest result remains Saturday’s 3–2 comeback victory over St. Louis CITY SC at Allianz Field.

The Loons recovered from a two-goal deficit after Rafael Navarro scored in the fourth minute and former Minnesota player Sangbin Jeong added another goal in the 10th. Aziel Jackson began Minnesota’s response in the 49th minute, Kelvin Yeboah equalized in the 68th and Marcus Caldeira scored the winner in the 86th.

The result ended St. Louis’ 21-match unbeaten run across competitions and gave Minnesota an important victory during its pursuit of postseason soccer.

Jackson subsequently earned a place on the bench of MLS Team of the Matchday 31. The club identified his goal as the start of the comeback and noted that it was his first of the regular season.

The recognition provides a fresh development beyond the weekend score. Jackson had accumulated only 185 minutes of regular-season action for Minnesota, according to the club, making the impact of his contribution particularly notable.

Minnesota United says its next opponent is Houston this weekend. Four regular-season games remain, leaving the Loons with limited opportunities to turn Saturday’s recovery into a sustained finish.

Twins: Season Finished at 77–85

The Twins had no game Monday or Tuesday. Their 2026 season ended with a 77–85 record and no postseason berth.

Minnesota did finish with a victory, defeating Texas 6–4 in the September 27 finale. Josh Bell drove in three runs, including a two-run home run, while starter Dean Kremer pitched seven innings of one-run baseball.

The result eliminated Texas from playoff contention, but it did not change Minnesota’s own postseason status. The Twins’ final win and their overall losing record describe different parts of the season’s conclusion: a successful last afternoon within a campaign that ended short of October competition.

Lynx: September 29 Elimination Ended Minnesota’s Playoff Run

The Lynx are also out of competition, having been eliminated by the New York Liberty in the first round of the WNBA playoffs.

The deciding game occurred September 29, when New York won 87–71 to complete a 2–0 sweep. September 30 appeared in subsequent coverage, but it was not the date of Minnesota’s final game.

Courtney Williams led Minnesota with 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the elimination game. Napheesa Collier and Kayla McBride each scored 14. New York received 21 points and 13 rebounds from Jonquel Jones, along with 21 points from Breanna Stewart.

The Liberty finished with advantages in rebounding and points in the paint. Minnesota’s first-round exit brought an abrupt end to its postseason despite entering as the top seed.

The league’s official bracket confirms the completed series. There was no Lynx game Monday and none scheduled Tuesday.

Frost: Training Camp Begins November 18

The Minnesota Frost complete the seven-franchise picture. They remain in the offseason, with training camp scheduled to open November 18 at TRIA Rink.

The announced camp group includes 30 players: 17 forwards, nine defenders and four goaltenders. Seventeen are already signed for the coming season, and 16 played for Minnesota during 2025–26.

The Frost have scheduled preseason scrimmages against Las Vegas November 22 and Vancouver November 23 in Henderson, Nevada. Their regular season begins December 5 at San Jose, followed by the home opener December 13 against Seattle at Grand Casino Arena.

Minnesota’s upcoming season will unfold within an expanded PWHL structure. The league now has 12 teams divided into Eastern and Western conferences, with the Frost competing in the West.

Each team will play 30 regular-season games. The top four in each conference qualify for an expanded eight-team postseason, beginning with best-of-three first-round series.

That changes the competitive framework awaiting Minnesota when play resumes. For now, however, the Frost’s next team milestone is November training camp, while Tuesday’s immediate game attention belongs to the Wild in Edmonton.
