“Let’s Celebrate Minnesota Water / Celebremos el agua de Minnesota” is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. at the library, 711 County Highway 10 Northeast. The program is free, but registration is required.
Author and educator Minda Gomez will lead activities connected with “Treasure of the North,” the fourth book in her Martinez Kids Adventures series. Organizers list a treasure hunt, Spanish vocabulary practice and music among the activities. The program is designed primarily for children in kindergarten through second grade, although all ages are welcome.
Gomez’s work draws on her bilingual family and teaching experience. The Minnesota Humanities Center describes her as a Minnesota educator who has taught second grade in Mexico and worked with English learners. Her books encourage children to recognize bilingualism as a strength.
The October 29 event accompanies We Are Water MN, which opened at Northtown October 8 and remains available through November 30. The exhibit explores water through science, history, culture and personal experience.
Local stories are part of the presentation. Visitors can learn how community members relate to water through work and recreation, placing individual experiences alongside broader environmental questions.
The exhibit is available during regular library hours. Schools, community organizations and other groups can request an arranged visit through Anoka County Library. Associated programs are free, although some require registration.
For North Metro families, the upcoming bilingual celebration offers a scheduled activity alongside the broader exhibit. Families can attend the program and return separately to explore the displays at their own pace.
We Are Water MN is a partnership involving the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Minnesota Humanities Center, Minnesota Historical Society, state agencies and University of Minnesota Extension. It is supported by the Clean Water Fund established through Minnesota’s Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.
Registration for the October 29 program is linked through the Minnesota Humanities Center’s event page. Families should register before attending rather than assume space will be available at the door.
