MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Anton Treuer Brings Award-Winning Novel and Ojibwe Storytelling to Coon Rapids Campus

Anoka-Ramsey’s free October 21 reading gives North Metro residents an opportunity to hear the author discuss his writing and meet him during a book signing.

COON RAPIDS, MN (October 21, 2026). Author Anton Treuer is scheduled to visit Anoka-Ramsey Community College’s Coon Rapids campus Wednesday for a public reading and conversation about his novel, Where Wolves Don’t Die.

The Two Rivers Reading Series event runs from 1 to 1:50 p.m. in the Legacy Room, SC 270–272, at 11200 Mississippi Boulevard NW. Admission is free, and a book signing will follow. English faculty member Jamie Randall will interview Treuer about his writing and the book.

The novel follows Ezra Cloud, an Ojibwe teenager living in Northeast Minneapolis who becomes a suspect after a neighborhood antagonist’s house burns. His family sends him to stay with his grandfather in a remote part of Canada while the investigation continues.

That journey provides the setting for a story about family relationships, cultural identity and a young person’s growing understanding of himself. Treuer’s event announcement identifies the book as his debut novel for young readers.

Treuer’s broader work includes Indigenous language revitalization, Native American history and contemporary Indigenous life. The college describes him as an Ojibwe author, professor and public speaker with more than 20 books.

For Anoka-Ramsey students, the appearance connects classroom reading with a direct conversation about how a book is created. The Two Rivers Reading Series has brought authors, poets and playwrights to the college for more than 25 years, incorporating visiting writers’ work into English courses.

The public invitation extends that opportunity beyond enrolled students to Coon Rapids and neighboring communities. Residents planning to attend should look for the Legacy Room on the Coon Rapids campus.
