Work on 86th and 87th lanes continues alongside sidewalk preparation and neighborhood restoration, with city documents explaining what residents can expect after crews finish.

COON RAPIDS, MN (October 26, 2026). Coon Rapids crews are scheduled to pave portions of 86th and 87th lanes this week while continuing driveway repairs, irrigation work and boulevard restoration across neighborhoods included in the city’s 2026 street reconstruction project.

The October 23 construction update identifies base asphalt paving on the two streets during the week beginning October 26. Driveway preparation and paving will continue, along with boulevard preparation and irrigation repairs.

Elsewhere, crews are scheduled to place sod on previously topsoiled areas north of 113th Avenue and install topsoil and sod along 113th Lane. Grading for the new Kumquat Street sidewalk and remaining restoration around 113th Avenue are also on the schedule.

A Neighborhood Project Approaching Its Original Completion Target

The work is part of Project 26-1, covering approximately 3.9 miles of residential streets. The City Council awarded the contract to Douglas-Kerr Underground LLC on April 21.

An April mailing to property owners anticipated construction beginning around May 1 and completion by the end of October. The latest bulletin documents work still scheduled during October’s final week; it does not announce that the entire project is complete. Weather and construction conditions can affect the schedule.

The project includes neighborhoods west of East River Road and residential streets between Egret and Northdale boulevards and between Kumquat Street and Foley Boulevard.

What Restoration Means for Property Owners

The city’s construction guidance distinguishes repairs needed because of the street project from improvements a homeowner may choose to purchase separately.

Driveway aprons are replaced when necessary curb replacement damages the adjoining driveway entrance. The project does not automatically replace every apron or repave an entire private driveway. Owners interested in additional driveway work must arrange and pay for that work separately.

For disturbed boulevards, the contractor places topsoil and sod where required and maintains the new sod for 45 days. Responsibility then transfers to the property owner. Residents receiving new sod should watch for the city’s maintenance instructions.

The April mailing also asks owners with underground irrigation systems to identify lines and sprinkler heads. White marking flags are available at City Hall. Owners who rent out affected properties are asked to pass construction information to their tenants.
