MSP Airport To Double Cell Phone Waiting Lot Capacity Ahead Of Thanksgiving

The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is expanding its cell phone waiting lot ahead of the busy Thanksgiving travel period.

The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) said it's opening the east cell phone waiting lot on the south side of Post Road with 100 vehicle spaces.

The area is less than a quarter mile from the west cell phone waiting lot. The free-to-use lots give drivers a place to wait until they receive the "I'm ready" call or text to pick a person up from outside arrivals.

The MAC expects the additional capacity to fill up quickly due to the increased travel for the holiday season.

“This is another way to enhance the customer experience, meeting the growing demand for free, safe, and convenient spaces for drivers to wait before picking up passengers,” said Brian Ryks, CEO of the MAC.

“The lots help reduce traffic congestion near the terminals because they eliminate the need for drivers to circle the airport before their party arrives at the pick-up zones.”

According to the MAC, the Minnesota airport is expecting its busiest Thanksgiving holiday travel season in four years, with peak times approaching 2019 levels. As of Friday, MSP's future busiest departure date is Wednesday, Nov. 22 with nearly 37,000 passengers.
