The Columbia Heights City Council has placed a moratorium on new cannabis businesses to give the city time to get its zoning in order before legal sales start. The unanimous decision came during the council’s Aug. 12 City Council meeting.

“With the ever moving target that is cannabis legislation, we’re here to try and keep up with state law, once again,” City Manager Aaron Chirpich said. “ ... In the 2024 legislative session, some changes were made to that law that we now have to accommodate.”
