Brooklyn Park To Lose One Of Its Cub Foods Stores In November

The Brooklyn Park North store will remain open.

Brooklyn Park will lose one of its Cub Foods stores in November.

A spokesperson from UNFI Retail, Cub’s parent company, confirmed that the grocery store in the Starlite Center at 7555 West Broadway will close its doors on November 16.

"After thoughtful and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close our CUB Brooklyn Park South store,” Andre Persaud, President and CEO of UNFI Retail, said in a statement.

"We continually evaluate our stores to ensure they are meeting our business and performance criteria, and at times, we must close a store that doesn’t enable us to stay open long term."

Cub Foods has another Brooklyn Park location at 9655 Colorado Ave. N. It also has other nearby locations in Maple Grove, Champlin, Plymouth, Coon Rapids, Blaine and Brooklyn Center.

The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 663 union is involved in the closure process, representing over 80 unionized Cub employees as they navigate what to do now.

"When a store makes a major change like this, there are things you can bargain for as a union member," union representative Jessica Hayssen said to the Sun Post.

According to reports from the Sun Post, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development visited the Brooklyn Park location on Sunday to host informational sessions through the "Dislocated Worker and Unemployment Insurance Programs."
