Final Days To Enjoy Coon Rapids Outdoor Ice-Skating As Warming Houses Set To Close

The season for outdoor ice skating in Coon Rapids is winding down, with the City announcing the closure of warming houses after February 23. Despite the chill that's held its grip, the forecasted thaw has prompted this annual transition. Locals who have yet to strap on their skates and glide across the ice have scant time left, as the maintained rinks are now subject to the whims of warmer weather.

According to a social media post by the City of Coon Rapids, MN - Local Government, "As we emerge from the deep freeze, get out and enjoy the outdoor ice while you can! Our warming houses will be closing for the season after Sunday, Feb. 23." The closure of these facilities marks a clear end to a season that has allowed residents to quickly skate beneath open skies and around the bonds of community spirit. Once the warming houses shut down, the city will continue to maintain the rinks only as the weather permits.

Skaters can still look forward to the automatic lights at Sand Creek Park and Riverview Park, which will remain lit until 9:30 p.m. daily, allowing for evening excursions onto the ice. This offers an opportunity for those who work during the day or who simply prefer the calming embrace of dusk to have their moment on the ice. However, without the warming houses, they'll need to come prepared to brace the cold without the solace of a heated shelter.

The City of Coon Rapids reminds locals to take advantage of the current ice conditions before the inevitable melt begins to progressively reclaim the rinks. They have urged the community to "get out and enjoy the outdoor ice while you can."
