Coon Rapids Adjusts Ice Center Fees to Stay Competitive
Skaters and hockey players will see modest changes in ice rental costs at the Coon Rapids Ice Center this season. The City Council has approved updates to the facility’s 2025 fee schedule, aligning rates with market trends while ensuring the center remains financially sustainable.
The adjustments primarily affect prime and non-prime ice rentals, outdoor ice, and some room rentals. According to the city’s adopted schedule, fall and winter prime ice time — the busiest evening and weekend hours — is now set at $248 per hour, while non-prime time is $192 per hour. Outdoor ice rentals are listed at $105 per hour.
Public skating remains affordable, with admission staying at $6 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Fees for skate rental, sharpening, and other services remain unchanged, keeping recreational options accessible to families and casual skaters.
City staff emphasized that the increases were “moderate,” guided by a recent market study that compared Coon Rapids to neighboring facilities. The goal, they noted, is to cover rising operating costs and reflect recent investments in technology and amenities, without pricing the Ice Center out of reach for community members.
Volume-rate discounts for organizations purchasing large blocks of ice time will continue. For example, groups booking more than 500 prime hours can access reduced rates of $243 per hour. The center also maintains revenue-support programs like dasherboard advertising, scoreboard sponsorships, and limited storage options for high-volume users.
“These adjustments keep the Ice Center competitive in the Twin Cities market while protecting the quality of programming our residents expect,” staff told the council during its September meeting.
The updated fees took effect following the council’s formal adoption of the 2025 schedule. The full list of charges, including rental details, surcharges, and special event rules, is available on the City of Coon Rapids website.
