Coon Rapids High Welcomes New School Resource Officer Jack Johnson

Coon Rapids, MN — Students and staff at Coon Rapids High School are getting to know a new face in their hallways: School Resource Officer (SRO) Jack Johnson. Representing the Coon Rapids Police Department, Officer Johnson brings nearly a decade of service to the community and has recently stepped into the SRO role to strengthen connections between law enforcement and youth.

A Decade of Service
Officer Johnson began his career with the Coon Rapids Police Department almost 10 years ago and has served as a sworn police officer for nearly four years. His path into law enforcement was driven by a desire to give back and engage in meaningful work.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to serve others, and no two days being the same,” Johnson said. “It’s dynamic, challenging, and rewarding.”

From Physics to Public Service
Though his professional life now centers on public safety, Johnson’s favorite subject in school was science—specifically physics. Away from the job, he enjoys unwinding with his favorite TV show, the legal drama Suits.

Advice for Aspiring Officers
To students considering a career in law enforcement or public service, Officer Johnson encourages early involvement and hands-on experiences.

“Get involved! There are so many volunteer opportunities and public service-related programs in your community,” he said, giving what he jokingly called a “shameless plug” for the police explorer program. “These will look fantastic on college and job applications down the line.”

A Welcoming Presence
As he begins his tenure as School Resource Officer, Johnson hopes to be a friendly and approachable presence for students, staff, and families alike.

The Coon Rapids High School community is encouraged to say hello and welcome Officer Johnson as he takes on this important role in building trust, safety, and connection.
