Coon Rapids Police, Anoka County Partners to Host Opioid Awareness Event Oct. 4

COON RAPIDS, MN — The Coon Rapids Police Department, in partnership with the Anoka County Opioid Solution Initiative (ACOSI), is urging residents to attend a major community event focused on combating the opioid crisis. The Spotlight on Opioids & Overdose event will take place on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Spring Lake Park High School (1100 81st Ave NE, Spring Lake Park).

The free, public event aims to raise awareness about overdose prevention, connect individuals and families with support services, and highlight countywide efforts to address opioid misuse. While open to everyone, organizers emphasize that students and parents are especially encouraged to attend.

Event Highlights

  • Over 50 Exhibits and Resource Tables: Healthcare providers, treatment centers, and recovery organizations will be on site to connect residents with available services and support.
  • Informative Speakers and Panels: Experts will discuss the impact of opioids in Anoka County, drug trends such as fentanyl, and prevention strategies. A Lived Experience Panel will share personal stories of addiction, loss, and recovery.
  • Free Naloxone Training & Distribution: A Naloxone Education Station will provide hands-on training and free naloxone (Narcan), a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose.

Local leaders and organizers describe the initiative as a collaborative effort between law enforcement, public health, and community organizations to equip residents with life-saving knowledge and tools. In addition to educational sessions, free food and resources will be available throughout the day.

The event is part of Anoka County’s broader commitment to addressing the opioid epidemic, with ACOSI serving as a central hub for prevention, response, and recovery strategies.
