MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Repairs to Damaged County Road 10 Bridge Begin Monday in Spring Lake Park

SPRING LAKE PARK, MN (August 16, 2026) Repairs to the damaged Anoka County Road 10/Mounds View Boulevard bridge over Highway 65 will begin Monday, August 17, nearly 10 months after an oversized load struck one of the bridge’s exterior girders.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation said crews will begin mobilizing Monday. Motorists should expect daily closures of the left, or inside, lane of southbound Highway 65 from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the first week of work.

The start of permanent repairs represents a material development in a story MinneapoliMedia first reported in October 2025.

How the bridge was damaged

On October 28, 2025, a semi-tractor-trailer carrying a prefabricated pedestrian bridge southbound on Highway 65 struck the westbound County Road 10 overpass.

The collision damaged the exterior fascia girder on the north side of the westbound bridge. The trailer separated from the semi and was subsequently struck by another vehicle, but authorities reported no injuries.

The pedestrian bridge was being transported to Coon Rapids for installation over Coon Rapids Boulevard. That structure is part of a project connecting the Coon Creek Regional Trail across the boulevard.

The collision forced the closure of the loop ramp carrying northbound Highway 65 traffic to westbound County Road 10/Mounds View Boulevard. That ramp has remained closed since the October incident.

MnDOT’s repair project is intended to replace the damaged structural components and restore the ramp connection.

Full weekend closure tentatively scheduled

MnDOT is tentatively planning a full weekend closure of southbound Highway 65 while crews demolish and remove the damaged section of the bridge deck and exterior girder.

The closure is scheduled to begin at 10:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, and continue until 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 31.

Because the schedule remains tentative, motorists should confirm the closure and detour information before traveling through the interchange that weekend.

Drivers should anticipate delays around Highway 65 and County Road 10 throughout the repair period. Construction activities and traffic restrictions remain dependent on weather and the contractor’s schedule.

MnDOT expects the bridge repairs to be completed by late fall 2026, weather permitting.
