Justin Jefferson's touchdown return, Aaron Jones' decisive fourth-quarter rushing score, and another commanding defensive performance helped Minnesota remain unbeaten heading into its bye week.

NEW ORLEANS, LA (October 12, 2026). The Minnesota Vikings continued their undefeated start to the 2026 NFL season Sunday, defeating the New Orleans Saints 23-13 at Caesars Superdome to improve to 5-0 and maintain first place in the NFC North.

The victory featured an efficient performance from quarterback Kyler Murray, a welcome return from star wide receiver Justin Jefferson, and another impressive outing by a Minnesota defense that has become central to the team's early-season success.

Murray completed 24 of 30 passes for 229 yards and one touchdown without throwing an interception. He also contributed 51 rushing yards, giving the Vikings another dimension offensively.

Jefferson, returning after missing Minnesota's previous game because of an ankle injury, caught six passes for 79 yards, including a spectacular 15-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter. The Louisiana native delivered the memorable play in his home state, helping Minnesota regain control after a competitive first half.

Running back Aaron Jones overcame an early fumble and a knee injury scare to finish with 113 rushing yards on 25 carries. His decisive moment came early in the fourth quarter when he powered into the end zone from eight yards out, breaking a 13-13 tie and putting Minnesota ahead for good.

Kicker Will Reichard added three field goals, including a 55-yard kick in the fourth quarter that extended the Vikings' advantage to 10 points.

Minnesota's defense, coordinated by Brian Flores, again provided the foundation for victory. The Vikings limited New Orleans to just 142 total offensive yards and intercepted Saints quarterback Tyler Shough twice.

Shough completed 16 of 25 passes for only 96 yards. The Saints managed just one offensive touchdown, while their other score came when safety Jonas Sanker returned a Minnesota fumble 87 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

The Vikings also faced an early injury concern when Pro Bowl tight end T.J. Hockenson suffered a concussion during Minnesota's opening offensive possession. Hockenson caught a seven-yard pass from Murray on the second play of the game before hitting his head on the turf while being tackled by Saints linebacker Pete Werner. He was taken to the locker room for evaluation and subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

Hockenson's condition and progress through the NFL's concussion protocol will be important developments to monitor during Minnesota's upcoming bye week.

The victory sends Minnesota into its bye week with five consecutive wins and growing confidence in a team whose defense has consistently delivered while the offense continues to develop under Murray.

The Vikings will return to action Sunday, October 25, 2026, when they host the Indianapolis Colts at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time, with CBS carrying the game.

For Minnesota, the immediate accomplishment is clear: five games played, five victories, and sole possession of first place in the NFC North.
