MINNEAPOLIS, MN (November 6, 2026).
November has arrived in Minnesota, and apparently the holiday shopping season has decided there is no reason to wait until Thanksgiving.
The Halloween decorations have barely made it back into storage, the leftover candy is still circulating through households, and already the craft fairs are opening their doors. Somewhere in the Twin Cities, a family is negotiating whether it is too early to put up Christmas decorations. Somewhere else, somebody has quietly put them up and decided the discussion is over.
Minnesota has always had an interesting relationship with the calendar. We spend much of October preparing for Halloween, most of November preparing for December, and then spend December wondering how the year disappeared so quickly.
Fortunately, the weekend of November 6–8 offers plenty of reasons to leave the house before those conversations become too complicated.
Across the Northwest Metro, churches, schools, recreation centers and community organizations are preparing holiday bazaars and craft fairs. Coon Rapids has the Epiphany Craft Bazaar, Blaine has two Saturday markets, and Champlin, Andover, Maple Grove, Brooklyn Center and neighboring communities are welcoming shoppers looking for locally made gifts.
In Minneapolis, the Minneapolis Gift & Art Expo takes over part of the convention center for three days. The Twin Cities Book Festival returns to Saint Paul's Union Depot, while the Bell Museum hosts Collectors Day and the Minneapolis Institute of Art welcomes families for special programming.
The performing arts calendar is particularly strong. The Children's Theatre Company continues its world premiere of Twelve Kinds of Ice, the Guthrie Theater presents the final weekend of Kunene and the King, and the Minnesota Orchestra's Nordic Soundscapes Festival brings Scandinavian-inspired programming to Orchestra Hall.
Music fans have an extraordinary selection, including KATSEYE, Joy Oladokun, Jack White, The War and Treaty, Brigitte Calls Me Baby and several smaller concerts across the region.
Sports fans are hardly being neglected. The Minnesota Wild, Timberwolves, Minnesota United, Gophers football and Gophers volleyball all appear on the weekend calendar.
And for families looking for something quieter, there are library programs, nature center activities, museum exhibitions and opportunities to explore Minnesota's communities without purchasing an expensive ticket.
Welcome to another edition of This Weekend in the Twin Cities™, MinneapoliMedia's weekly guide to the people, places and experiences that make our communities worth exploring.
This Friday edition covers November 6 through November 8, with special attention to Minneapolis, Saint Paul, Anoka County, Coon Rapids and the Northwest Metro.
November weather can make a weekend itinerary feel like a negotiation with several different seasons.
Before leaving home, check the latest National Weather Service forecast for the Twin Cities. Temperatures, wind, precipitation and outdoor conditions may differ across the region.
A current numerical forecast for November 6–8 has not been independently confirmed for this edition, so specific temperatures and precipitation percentages are not being presented as verified.
Families planning outdoor activities should dress in layers and check individual event pages for weather-related changes.
Traffic and parking: Downtown Minneapolis will be particularly busy Saturday with the KATSEYE concert at Target Center, Minnesota United's match at Allianz Field, college football and other entertainment events. Sunday brings the Timberwolves at Target Center and Jack White at the Armory.
Saint Paul visitors should also anticipate activity around Grand Casino Arena, the Palace Theatre and Union Depot.
Allow extra time for parking and security screening at large venues. Public transportation may be a useful alternative.

BEFORE YOU HEAD OUT
A busy weekend offers plenty of choices, but it also rewards a little advance planning.
For families: Free storytimes, craft activities, nature center programs and community markets offer alternatives to higher-priced attractions. Some programs require registration even when admission is free.
For holiday markets: Bring reusable shopping bags and consider carrying cash, although many vendors accept electronic payments. Supporting small businesses and independent artisans can make holiday shopping more personal.
For sports and concerts: Check venue bag policies, parking instructions and security requirements. Downtown Minneapolis and Saint Paul may experience heavier traffic around major events.
For museums: Confirm special-program admission and accessibility arrangements. General museum admission policies may differ from those for special exhibitions.
For outdoor recreation: Check the weather and dress for changing November conditions.
For accessibility: Visitors requiring accessible parking, seating, sensory accommodations or interpretation should contact organizers in advance.
For event verification: A small number of listings in this expanded directory have dates confirmed by public event calendars but lack complete organizer-confirmed admission or scheduling details. Readers should follow the listed event information before traveling.
THE TAKEAWAY
The first full weekend of November offers an interesting portrait of life across the Twin Cities.
In the Northwest Metro, community organizations are doing much of the work of bringing people together. Churches, schools, volunteer associations and local artisans have organized an extensive network of craft fairs and holiday markets, many with free admission.
These events are not simply places to purchase decorations or gifts. They create opportunities for neighbors to meet, small businesses to find customers, community groups to raise money and families to participate in activities close to home.
Coon Rapids' Epiphany Craft Bazaar, Champlin's Arts & Crafts Show, Maple Grove's Holiday Craft Boutique and the events in Blaine and Andover demonstrate how much cultural and economic activity takes place outside the region's downtown entertainment districts.
Minneapolis and Saint Paul, meanwhile, continue to offer the scale and variety of a major metropolitan arts community.
The Twin Cities Book Festival celebrates literature and independent publishing. The Minneapolis Gift & Art Expo gives artists and makers a regional marketplace. The Children's Theatre Company and Guthrie Theater offer performances that encourage audiences to consider relationships, memory and the human experience.
Music lovers can move from international pop at Target Center to chamber music, rock, folk and independent performances across smaller venues.
Sports fans have opportunities to support professional and collegiate teams, while museums, libraries and parks provide activities that do not depend on the price of a concert ticket.
There is also something encouraging about the number of free and low-cost events available this weekend.
Access matters. Not every household can afford premium entertainment, and not every family wants to spend an entire day traveling across the metropolitan area.
A healthy community calendar should include opportunities for different ages, interests, budgets and neighborhoods.
That is why This Weekend in the Twin Cities™ continues to place North Metro and neighborhood events alongside the region's major attractions.
A holiday bazaar in Coon Rapids may not attract the same crowd as an arena concert in Minneapolis, but it can be just as meaningful to the people who attend, organize and benefit from it.
And sometimes the best weekend experience is not the one with the largest audience.
It is the one that brings you closer to your community.
EDITOR'S NOTE
At MinneapoliMedia, we believe a good weekend should come with plenty of possibilities, a little adventure and, preferably, fewer arguments about where everyone wants to go.
This Weekend in the Twin Cities™ is our way of helping you discover the people, places, celebrations and experiences that make Minnesota's communities worth exploring.
This weekend offers an especially good reminder that some of the best things happening in our communities are organized by people whose names rarely appear in headlines.
The volunteers preparing church bazaars, the librarians organizing children's activities, the artists setting up their market tables and the neighborhood organizations bringing families together all contribute to the life of our region.
We hope you'll consider visiting one of those events, particularly somewhere you have not explored before.
Of course, if your weekend plans involve visiting three craft fairs and returning home with a candle, a knitted scarf and a decorative wooden sign you had absolutely no intention of purchasing, we understand.
November has a way of doing that to people.
Event schedules, admission prices and ticket availability can change, sometimes faster than a Minnesota weather forecast. We encourage readers to check directly with organizers before heading out, especially for outdoor activities, advance reservations and accessibility arrangements.
Most importantly, enjoy yourself. Support local artists, visit a neighborhood you have never explored, introduce someone to a new experience and remember that not every weekend needs an elaborate itinerary to become a good memory.
And if your carefully planned Saturday somehow turns into three unexpected stops and dinner somewhere nobody originally suggested, well, that sounds like a fairly successful weekend to us.
Independent community journalism depends on people who believe that local stories, neighborhood experiences and the voices of Minnesota residents deserve attention.
