The new service, known as MSP RESERVE, is now in operation for passengers flying out of Terminal 2

MINNEAPOLIS — Sick of standing in long lines for TSA security checkpoint screenings before flying out of Minneapolis-St. Paul International (MSP) Airport? Take a cleansing breath... relief may soon be on your radar.

The airport is rolling out a new program called MSP RESERVE, a service designed to reduce security screening wait times by allowing general passengers to book a specific time. It is currently in operation at MSP Terminal 2 from 3:45 a.m. to 8 a.m.

"Think about making a reservation for dinner. This is making a reservation to go through security," said airport spokesperson Jeff Lea. "It gives passengers a little bit more predictability, [to] take control, maybe incentivize them to plan ahead."

Here's how it works:

Departing passengers sign up before their flight (up to seven days in advance) or immediately upon entering Terminal 2 by scanning a posted QR code.

Passengers booking an appointment enter airline, destination and flight number, along with name, contact info and traveling party size

Reservations can be made from 240 to 60 minutes before scheduled flight departure

When it's time for screening appointment, go to lane marked MSP RESERVE

Confirm appointment electronically with agent and go through screening

MSP requires no account registration or membership and is completely free of charge. Appointments are limited so travelers are encouraged to sign up as early as possible (a week before departing flight).
