Driver Of Stolen Vehicle Killed In Coon Rapids Crash, Car Fire

Law enforcement responded to the scene of a fatal single-vehicle crash of a stolen car Sunday morning, July 30, in Coon Rapids, after the driver of the vehicle struck a tree, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

On July 30 at 4:40 a.m., Anoka County Emergency Communications received a 911 call reporting a vehicle on fire in the 10400 block of Mississippi Boulevard NW in Coon Rapids, according to a Tuesday Aug. 1 press release from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office. The Coon Rapids and Anoka police departments responded to the scene and found a single vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a tree.

Arriving police officers and firefighters found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The Coon Rapids Fire Department brought the blaze under control. First responders located an adult victim in the vehicle who was pronounced dead at the scene.

ACSO issued the Tuesday press release after ABC Newspapers inquired about the incident following a news tip from a Coon Rapids community member.

The victim’s identity has not yet been confirmed.

The vehicle involved in the crash was reported to have been stolen from Coon Rapids, the release states. Law enforcement was not involved in any pursuit of the vehicle prior to the crash, and determined that it had been reported stolen during the crash-scene investigation.

Coon Rapids Police Department, the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office and ACSO are investigating the incident.
