March 25: Monday Snow Update In Coon Rapids

Image

Coon Rapids public works staff was out throughout the day on Sunday to stay on top of the winter storm. Moving through the city, crews focused on cleanup where needed - primarily on main streets. All crews came in Monday at 4 a.m. to begin a full plow of all City-maintained streets.

A full plow covers all main streets, residential streets and cul-de-sac areas maintained by the City. The process takes several hours to complete. Sidewalks will also be cleared within 48 hours.

If you must be out... Please drive slow, stay back from plows and give them space. Help out snow clearing operations by keeping all parked vehicles out of the streets. Street parking and other obstacles in the road slow down the plow process and prevent crews from effectively clearing curb-to-curb.

When snow accumulation is three inches or more, vehicles must not be parked on the street until plows have come by and cleared the snow from curb-to-curb.

Another snowplow update will be provided if or when another full plow is scheduled. You can also call the Snowplow Hotline at 763-755-2880 (select menu option 3) or sign up for email updates here.

Fire Hydrants

  • It is the responsibility of all residents to remove snow from fire hydrants nearest to their home.
  • Clear a path three feet around the hydrant.
  • This is for the safety of you and your property. Cleared hydrants reduce response time in the event of an emergency, so that first responders do not have to shovel out the hydrant before firefighting operations can begin.
  • If you or your neighbors are unable to clear your hydrant, you may request assistance from a group of community volunteers by filling out this online form.
  • Volunteers make every attempt to address each request, but can not be guaranteed. City staff also attempts to help clear hydrants when they are able.

Can you help? The community volunteers are always looking for more helpers! If you are willing to volunteer to help shovel hydrants for those who are unable please sign up here.

Winter Parking Rules

  • While the overnight street parking ban is only in effect from Nov. 1 to April 1, keeping vehicles, garbage cans and other items out of the street during spring snowfalls will help crews achieve the most thorough cleanup possible.

Garbage & Recycling Bins

  • Please keep garbage and recycling carts out of the street, behind the curb.
  • City Code requires streets remain free of obstructions so the plow can go by and clean thoroughly.
  • Other obstructions must be out of the roadway as well, including basketball hoops, hockey nets and other items.
