Foodie Finds: Fhima's Minneapolis And Dining Out For Life

MINNEAPOLIS — Dining Out For Life is a unifying event that brings together establishments across the greater Twin Cities to support people living with HIV.

Among those donating a portion of profits on Thursday, April 25 is Fhima's Minneapolis. Director of operations Eli Fhima and chef Marco Leon Gil visited KARE 11 News at Noon to share some gems from their menu - Merguez Sandwich, Tagine, Salade Nicoise and Kebab Salad - and talk about why the restaurant takes part in Dining Out For Life.

"I have been at the forefront of combatting HIV since it first emerged on the scene in the late '70s and early '80s," Fhima recalled. "I owned a restaurant in West Hollywood at the time and was on the board of APLA (Aids Project Los Angeles). Later when I moved to Minneapolis, the first board I served on was MAP (Minnesota Aids project).

This cause is very close to my heart and to my family's as we have lost a lot of good people to HIV. Society doesn't talk about it as before but the focus needs to remain strong because many people are still suffering from the effects of AIDS/HIV. The Fhima family is committed to continuing in helping the fight in any way. “
