In a bid to kindle community spirit and aid children in need, the Coon Rapids Police Association has planned a bean bag tournament as part of the 4th of July Community Celebration. According to an announcement on their Facebook page, the competition will raise funds for the "Shop with a Cop" program which equips less fortunate kids with school supplies and holiday gifts.
The event, initially set for July 3 starting at 5 p.m. at the grounds of the Coon Rapids Ice Center, opened registration with a $60 fee per two-person team, which was intended for a battle on the bean bag courts among a ceiling of 24 teams. Bearing the hallmark of generosity, every throw, and every point scored in this double-elimination tournament represents a step toward brightening a child's educational journey or holiday season.
However, in a recent update, due to low registration numbers, the organizers have decided to postpone the festivities to September. The exact date is yet to be confirmed, but the goal remains steadfast – to rally community support through a leisurely sport for a noble cause.
The Coon Rapids Police Association has not been shy in its commitment to connecting with the community and the "Shop with the Cop" initiative is a testament to that bond, working diligently to ease the burden on families that struggle to provide for their children's basic needs. The bean bag tournament offers a dual opportunity – to engage in community fun and extend a helping hand to the youth whose lives are quietly enmeshed with challenges, the pressure of which we often overlook.
