A man was shot and killed by Crookston police at a homeless shelter after a fight allegedly broke out on Sunday night.

Officers were called to a fight at the Care and Share homeless shelter in Crookston just before midnight. According to police, the man was "combative" toward officers and was not following verbal commands.

Officers allegedly tried to detain the man using "less-lethal" methods before an officer opened fire.

Despite life-saving efforts from officers, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The statement from Crookston PD does not make any mention of the man being armed. No details have been provided as to the threat presented towards officers.

The Minnesota BCA is investigating the incident, with the officers involved placed on standard administrative leave.

This marks the second fatal police shooting in Crookston in little over a month, with a man wielding a hatchet being shot and killed in late May.
