For those considering a career in law enforcement, the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) is opening its doors to provide insight into joining their ranks. Today, July 22nd at 5:30 pm, the MPD will hold an information session tailored for potential recruits at the Special Operations Center located at 4119 Dupont Ave N. As per a recent Facebook announcement, the department highlights the opportunity for those with a two or four-year degree and eligibility to be POST licensed, describing the Recruit Program as an ideal pathway into their service.

Ensuring competitive compensation, MPD aims to attract committed individuals, offering a starting hourly rate of $39.21 on the first day of the academy. This rate is set to rise to $40.81/hr after graduation, with two more raises forecasted before July 2025. Clearly, MPD is eager not just to recruit, but also to retain officers by promising a trajectory of financial growth. Their investment in the welfare of their own can be seen as an attempt to possibly rebuild and strengthen the department in the wake of past controversy.
The information session provides a space for interested candidates to inquire directly about what the MPD expects from them and what prospective officers can expect in return. "Interested in becoming a Minneapolis Police Officer and serve our residents with pride and compassion?" the post raises the question, pointing toward the ethos the department wishes to embody. It's a recruitment drive but also a declaration of the values the MPD seeks to instill in its future members.
