Both sides of Anoka’s “dual track” approach to organized hauling have advanced this month, with a draft contract submitted by area haulers and a vote giving the decision to switch to organized hauling as a majority of Anoka voters, a total 1,536, answered “yes” to a ballot question that modifies the city charter, taking the decision to switch to organized hauling away from the City Council and onto a vote. The “no” vote earned 529 votes.
The draft contract was submitted to the city Aug. 1, as per its requirement, so that it could be discussed at the Aug. 5 Anoka City Council meeting. The content of the contract were not publicly discussed at the meeting.
