A Coon Rapids man taken to the hospital following a Saturday night shooting in Brooklyn Park has died, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.

Nichanon Kittikroekphon, 34, was shot at a home on the 8400 block of Adair Avenue North. Police responded to the reports of shots fired around 6:34 p.m. and found Kittikroekphon suffering from "severe gunshot injuries" to his midsection.

Officers aided Kittikroekphon until paramedics took him to North Memorial Health Hospital by ambulance.

According to the medical examiner, he died the same day, succumbing to multiple gunshot wounds. His manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

Officers also found a 31-year-old man being pinned to the ground by several other people at the home. Police determined he was the shooter and took him into custody. He is currently in the Hennepin County Jail awaiting formal charges.

Based on early investigation, police say the suspect and Kittikroekphon were related and that the people at the home were there for a family gathering. The suspect became upset with Kittikroekphon at one point, and after a verbal argument, he pulled out a handgun and shot Kittikroekphon several times at close range.

Other family members tackled the suspect to the ground and held him down until police arrived.
