Anoka Talks Cannabis Policies Ahead Of Retail Sales
With retail sales of cannabis set to hit Minnesota streets in 2025, the Anoka City Council held first readings of new cannabis policies during its Nov. 18 City Council meeting. One change to city code and another to zoning texts has put the city in a position to set a number of licenses and decide the areas in town where a cannabis retailer can set up shop.
“As the City Council is aware, the 2023 Minnesota State Legislature adopted State Statute 342 legalizing Cannabis in Minnesota as of August 2023 and amended in 2024,” Community Development Director Doug Borglund said. “The legislation creates the framework for adult-use cannabis in Minnesota and establishes a new Office of Cannabis Management, which will regulate cannabis and issue licenses and develop regulations outlining how and when businesses can participate in the industry.”
