Wright County Residents, Apply By Dec. 31 To Save On Property Taxes With Homestead Designation
In an announcement that could impact your 2025 property wallet, the Wright County Assessor's Office wants to make sure homeowners are aware of an important deadline.
According to Wright County, if you've bought a new place or settled into one this past year, you've got until December 31, to apply for a homestead designation that might reduce your property taxes and could affect eligibility for a Property Tax Refund.
Turns out, a "qualifying relative" – think parents, siblings, or even more distantly related kin like nieces and nephews – occupying the property could also make you eligible for this tax benefit, as detailed by Wright County. The office clarifies that this includes relatives by blood or marriage.
You can apply for homestead status online through the Wright County Assessor's webpage. Once granted, it's typically a one-time process unless the county requests renewal. However, if circumstances change, such as selling your home or a change in who lives there, you must inform the Assessor's Office within 30 days. Contact them at (763) 682-7367 to keep your records up to date and ensure accurate tax billing
