Coon Rapids Welcomes Holiday Cheer with Annual Tree Lighting Festival And Community Giving

The City of Coon Rapids is ringing in the holiday season with its annual Tree Lighting Festival, which is scheduled for tonight. According to a social media post from the City of Coon Rapids, MN - Local Government, the community event, set to unfold from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at Boulevard Plaza, promises a variety of complimentary festive activities for families and community members to enjoy.

Attendees can bask in the warmth of fire pits while sipping hot cocoa and munching on cookies, just a few perks offered to fend off the December chill. Adding to the holiday spirit, Santa is slated to arrive at 4 p.m., ready for photos which a photographer will snap free of charge, soon to appear on the Coon Rapids Community Strength Foundation Facebook page by the coming Friday. Nest to Threads Boutique is also bringing an ornament-making station to the festival where folks, looking for a creative outlet amid the festivities, can craft their own holiday decorations.

The festival is also a chance for attendees to give back to the community. As the City of Coon Rapids announced, the event will accept non-perishable food items and monetary donations to support the Coon Rapids High School food shelf and the Cardinal Compassion Fund. These initiatives aim to assist those in need during what can be a challenging time of year for some families within the community.

As dusk approaches, the event will culminate with a countdown to the main attraction: the lighting of the tree and a fireworks display, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Against the backdrop of live music, participants will be able to draft and send their personal wishes to Santa through letters, ensuring that the youngest of them leave with memories twinkling as bright as the illuminated tree.
