Charges: Coon Rapids Man Was Under The Influence Of Alcohol At Time Of Deadly Anoka Crash

According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened near the 1000 block of North Street around 6:30 p.m.

ANOKA, Minn. — A 37-year-old man is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol when he was involved in a crash that killed the driver of another vehicle Monday night in Anoka.

Zachary Scott Lee Wydella, of Coon Rapids, is charged with two counts of criminal vehicular homicide — one for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and another for operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration of .08 or more.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened near the 1000 block of North Street around 6:30 p.m. Officials said Wydella was traveling westbound in a minivan when it collided with a sedan driven by the woman, going eastbound. The woman, later identified as 51-year-old Anne Marie Moore, of Ham Lake, died at the scene.

Wydella was seriously injured in the crash, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

When speaking to Wydella, the criminal complaint says officers could smell alcohol on his breath and said his eyes were "bloodshot and watery." Police also said his speech was slurred and his movements were delayed. Court documents say investigators found a box of wine under the passenger seat and a cup that contained a red liquid consistent with the wine. After drawing blood, results indicated an alcohol concentration of .246, according to the criminal complaint.
