CROSS Services Hopes Empty Bowls Fundraiser Helps Struggling Families

A local nonprofit dedicated to fighting food insecurity in the northwest metro held one of its largest fundraising events this week.

Tuesday night in Maple Grove, Rogers-based CROSS Services held its 18th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser.

Several hundred people came out to the Church of the Open Door for an evening of live music, art, and local cuisine, all in an effort to help struggling families.

CROSS Services hoped to raise $35,000.

“One in five families are in need of food, and the numbers continue to skyrocket,” said Chad Landers, the executive director of CROSS Services. “And those who are coming out tonight know there’s a need out there, and by coming out and being a part of our Empty Bowls event [Tuesday], they know their dollars are coming together to make a difference.”

CROSS Services is also participating in Minnesota FoodShare, so all donations to the nonprofit will be doubled through Sunday, April 6.
