Anoka County Offers Free Secure Document Shredding Event in Coon Rapids To Prevent Identity Theft

For those in Anoka County with a backlog of documents to discard, a free paper shredding event is on the horizon.

On May 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or until capacity is met, residents and small business owners can bring their outdated files to the Coon Rapids Recycling Center at 1827 111th Ave.

NW for secure shredding. The limit is a manageable five boxes per visitor.

An essential step in preventing identity theft, shredding sensitive documents ensures personal information doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

The process at the event, according to the city's website, is designed for efficiency and security.

Participants' documents will be placed in a cart and then transferred directly into a mobile shredding truck equipped with a cross-cut shredder, transforming papers into confetti-sized pieces right before their eyes.

Post-shredding, the cardboard boxes that once contained sensitive papers can be conveniently recycled at the same location.

Adhering to a customer-friendly approach, the event organizers stipulate that no time-consuming prep work is necessary before arrival. "It is not necessary to remove paper clips, staples or rubber bands. Papers do not need to be separated from envelopes. It is not necessary to remove windows from envelopes. Books of checks do not need to be separated. Files can be left in folders," details the city's official announcement. However, participants should note that items such as three-ring binders, credit cards, and CDs are not acceptable for shredding at this event.
