At the April 14 meeting, the Columbia Heights City Council unanimously approved an amendment to the planning and inspections budget to clear the way for an eventual new Code Enforcement Officer. The role will be one that oversees zoning and property maintenance violations, according to
a report from Community Development Director Mitchell Forney.
Forney wrote that the move will allow the city to reduce reliance on its current complaint-driven model, and will allow the city to focus on legacy issues that have faced less attention. The position also includes code enforcement within the city’s new Tyler software system.
