AmeriCorps Seeks Tutors for Next School Year

The school year is winding down, but AmeriCorps’ search for tutors to help local school districts for next school year is ramping up.

AmeriCorps is searching for about 50 tutors to help schools in the northwest suburbs with math, reading and early learning.

“If you have a heart for service and you want to give back to your community and do good for students we want to meet you,” said Chris Erickson, AmeriCorps’ lead program manager with Minnesota Reading Corps, Match Corps and Early Learning Corps.

Tutors would receive training and work about 25 to 35 hours a week from August through June.

AmeriCorps tutors would work the entire 2025-2026 school year.

Pay is about $17 an hour. The tutors also receive an extra $5,176.50 to help pay for college tuition or student loans. Those who are 55 and older may choose to gift their education award to their child, grandchild, stepchild, or foster child.

“The tutors that come in, the members that serve in our programs and go to these schools every day and serve other people’s kids, they’re superheroes,” said Erickson. “They really are. You don’t need specialized skill sets, you don’t need a degree in education, you don’t need any extra skill set. We’ll train you from the beginning. We have coaching and support year-long so really anybody who’s even mildly interested and has the time is someone I would encourage to reachout.”
