BLAINE, Minn. — As anticipation builds for the 2025 3M Open, scheduled for July 21–27 at TPC Twin Cities, city officials and tournament organizers have announced a series of robust public safety measures to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for spectators, players, and staff.
This year’s event marks the seventh edition of the 3M Open, a PGA TOUR stop that has steadily grown in national prominence since its debut in 2019. The tournament routinely draws tens of thousands of fans, and with global attention on the Twin Cities metro, local authorities are taking no chances.
Blaine Police Chief Brian Podany confirmed that a multi-agency security plan is in place, developed in close coordination with the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Homeland Security, and private security firms contracted by the PGA TOUR.
“We’re committed to ensuring the safety of everyone attending the 3M Open,” said Chief Podany. “We’ve built a comprehensive, layered safety plan that includes everything from traffic management to emergency medical response and proactive threat mitigation.”
Key safety enhancements include:
The city has also launched a public information campaign to keep residents informed. A dedicated 3M Open Public Safety Portal has been launched on the City of Blaine’s website, offering real-time traffic advisories, emergency contacts, and FAQs about parking, bag policies, and entry protocols.
Residents in surrounding neighborhoods have received detailed advisories about street access restrictions, sound ordinances, and anticipated crowd volumes.
“This is a major event not just for golf fans, but for the entire Blaine community,” said Blaine Mayor Tim Sanders. “We want it to be a source of pride and enjoyment, and that starts with making everyone feel safe.”
Tournament organizers have worked closely with Metro Transit to provide expanded bus service to and from designated park-and-ride lots. Additionally, rideshare drop-off zones have been clearly marked, and ADA-compliant shuttles will run regularly to assist patrons with disabilities.
Event parking is limited and must be reserved in advance through the 3M Open’s official website. Officials are urging attendees to plan ahead, arrive early, and expect delays during peak times.
Given Minnesota’s unpredictable summer weather, contingency plans are in place for extreme heat or storm conditions. Cooling stations will be available throughout the course, and hydration points will be stocked with water and electrolyte beverages.
“We’re prepared for a range of scenarios,” said 3M Open Executive Director Hollis Cavner. “Our guests’ well-being is our top priority.”
With a star-studded player field expected and increased attendance projected, this year’s 3M Open may be one of the largest sporting events in Minnesota this summer. Officials remain confident that meticulous preparation will lead to a smooth and secure tournament week.
“We’re proud to showcase what Blaine and Minnesota have to offer on a global stage,” Mayor Sanders added. “It’s going to be a week to remember.”
