Chrome, Culture, And Community: The Low Rider Style Car Club’s 2nd Annual Picnic And Car Show

On a bright weekend in the Twin Cities, we set out to explore what was happening in local neighborhoods—and struck gold. At Lake McCarrons County Park, the air was filled with the scent of grilled food, the pulse of bass-heavy music, and the gleam of chrome under the summer sun. It was the Low Rider Style Car Club’s 2nd Annual Picnic and Car Show, a community-driven celebration of cars, culture, and connection.

The event drew families, seasoned car enthusiasts, musicians, and even young entrepreneurs. From hydraulic lowriders to customized donks, every vehicle reflected artistry and passion. We spoke with several voices behind the day—including Andre, the event organizer, DJ Pat Boom, who kept the vibes alive, and Andreas, a young content creator capturing it all for his growing audience.

“Giving Back to the Community” – Andre, Event Organizer

Tom Akaolisa: Andre, can you tell us what this event is all about?

Andre: This is the Low Rider Style 2nd Annual Picnic. It’s a community get-together where different car clubs come together. We host it, provide food and entertainment, and create a space for everyone to relax and enjoy themselves.

Tom: How long have gatherings like this been happening?

Andre: In California, events like this have been going on for at least 50 years. Here in Minnesota, they’ve been happening for about 20 years. For example, Ricky with Rollers Only just celebrated their 20th anniversary picnic. This is only our second annual picnic, but our club has been established in Minnesota for seven years now.

Tom: How does this year’s turnout compare to last year?

Andre: We definitely have more people this year. Mother Nature probably kept a few folks away, but overall, I’m really happy with the turnout.

Tom: What’s the bigger goal of hosting this event?

Andre: Honestly, it’s about giving back to the community that supports us.

“Bringing the Vibe” – DJ Pat Boom

Tom Akaolisa: DJ Pat Boom, what’s your relationship to this event?

DJ Pat Boom: I’m the DJ—ordained by the organization to bring the vibe. That’s what I do, and I love it.

Tom: How would you describe the event?

DJ Pat Boom: It’s about family fun. Everybody loves cars, especially kids, so we make this a space with no drama, no negativity—just good energy. Free food, free drinks for the kids. A place for people to come together and have a good time.

Tom: What kind of cars are featured here?

DJ Pat Boom: Any car that’s souped-up, customized—rims, hydraulics, nice paint jobs. If it has style, it belongs here.

Tom: Beyond music, you’re also showcasing something special today?

DJ Pat Boom: Yes, my sauces! I’ve got DJ Pat Boom’s Rasta Teas BBQ Sauce—hot & sweet—and my habanero sauce. You can order them at www.boomzbeatz.com. They’re $10 a bottle, shipped in about 3–4 days.

Tom: Any final message for the community?

DJ Pat Boom: I love everybody. There’s a lot going on in the world—politics, struggles, all of it—but if we stay grounded, keep faith, and focus on family, we’ll be okay. Keep your head up and keep moving forward.

“Capturing the Culture” – Andreas, Young Entrepreneur

Tom Akaolisa: Andreas, you’ve been out here with your camera and phone, documenting the event. Tell us a little about yourself.

Andreas: My name is Andreas. I run Car Master 5000 on YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook. I cover car meets and shows around Minnesota.

Tom: How did you first hear about this picnic and car show?

Andreas: Eric—the guy with the Cougar over there—told me about it last year. That’s how I came, and I’ve been coming back ever since.

Tom: What do you enjoy most about the event?

Andreas: The lowriders and the donks. I love cars with personality and style. This year, I’ve seen a lot of new cars I didn’t see last year, which makes it even more exciting.

Tom: Do you see yourself continuing to cover this event in the future?

Andreas: Absolutely. I’ll be here every year.

Tom: For people who want to follow your work, where can they find you?

Andreas: Check out Car Master 5000 on YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook. That’s where I post all my content from shows and meets across Minnesota.

More Than a Car Show

From Andre’s commitment to giving back, to DJ Pat Boom’s music and sauces, to Andreas’ entrepreneurial spirit, the Low Rider Style Car Club’s picnic is more than a showcase of cars. It’s a celebration of community, culture, and creativity—an event where the gleam of chrome is matched by the warmth of people coming together.
