In response to the tragic mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Governor Tim Walz has authorized the deployment of state law enforcement personnel to bolster public safety efforts around schools and places of worship in the city.
The deployment includes 14 Minnesota State Patrol troopers and six Department of Natural Resources (DNR) enforcement officers, who began their patrols on Thursday morning, August 28 .
The decision to increase security came at the request of Minneapolis city officials following the shooting on August 27, which resulted in the deaths of two children and injuries to 17 others.
The shooter, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, legally purchased the firearms used in the attack and later died by suicide. Authorities are investigating the incident as an act of domestic terrorism and a hate crime targeting Catholics .
