Hortman Family Gives Statement on Minneapolis Church Shooting
The Hortman family is speaking out about Wednesday’s school church shooting in Minneapolis, saying their hearts are with the victims and their families.
“We hope this tragedy spurs elected officials to take action towards common-sense measures on access to high-powered weapons so that no one else must suffer,” the statement, in part, read.
A gunman killed state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, in their Brooklyn Park home on June 14.
The full statement is as follows:
Our hearts are with the parents, families, and friends of the victims of today’s senseless act of violence. No one should have to suffer the loss of a loved one to gun violence.
Mark and Melissa believed that children should be able to gather in schools safely, that communities should be able to worship in peace, and that families should be safe in their homes. We hope this tragedy spurs elected officials to take action towards common-sense measures on access to high-powered weapons so that no one else must suffer.”
