ST. FRANCIS, Minn. — Local authorities are continuing their investigation following the discovery of ammunition on the grounds of St. Francis Middle School, an incident that raised community concern but, according to officials, posed no credible threat to students or staff. Classes resumed Monday as scheduled under heightened security.
The discovery, made late last week near the school’s football field bleachers, involved a rifle magazine containing .22 caliber ammunition, police confirmed. No firearm was located on campus in connection with the ammunition, and investigators have found no evidence of a weapon or credible threat associated with the incident, according to FOX 9 News.
Rumors that circulated on social media over the weekend alleging that a student had made threats against the school were determined to be fabricated, St. Francis Police said. The magazine was reportedly traced to a student who told investigators it had been accidentally left behind after attending a sporting event the previous evening.
While details surrounding the discovery remain under investigation, both school district officials and law enforcement have emphasized that the safety of students remains their top priority. In a statement, district leaders said they are working closely with police to determine how the ammunition entered school property and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Parents were notified of the situation prior to the start of the school week. Although some chose to keep their children home on Monday, the district confirmed that regular classes resumed and that additional security measures were in place to reassure families.
Authorities have urged residents to rely on verified updates from official sources as the investigation continues.
“At this time, there is no indication of an ongoing or credible threat to St. Francis Middle School,” police stated.
The St. Francis Police Department and Independent School District 15 will release further information as it becomes available.
