Oversize Load Strikes County Road 10 Bridge, Prompts Extended Ramp Closure and Highway 65 Disruptions in Spring Lake Park

SPRING LAKE PARK, Minn. — A collision involving an oversize load and the west end of the westbound Anoka County Road 10 bridge forced a major ramp closure and multi‑hour disruption on Highway 65 on Tuesday, officials confirmed.

A semi transporting a metal pedestrian bridge struck the underside of the County Road 10 overpass as it traveled southbound on Highway 65. The impact caused the trailer to separate from the semi, which was later struck by a second vehicle. No injuries were reported in either crash.

In the aftermath, the ramp from northbound Highway 65 to westbound County Road 10 will remain closed for several months while repairs are planned and executed. A timeline for restoring full access is currently under development.

Highway 65 Shuts Down, Reopens Later in the Day

In the hours following the crash, traffic on Highway 65 was halted in both directions between 85th Avenue Northeast and Highway 10. Only emergency vehicles were permitted access as crews and state troopers responded to the scene.

Initial estimates indicated that the closure would last until around 4:00 p.m. Northbound traffic was reopened at approximately 3:30 p.m., while southbound lanes returned to service just before 5:00 p.m.

Traffic cameras captured vehicles being diverted away from the overpass, with drivers rerouted off the main corridor while the scene was secured and cleared.

What Drivers Should Know

  • Motorists planning to use the northbound‑to‑westbound ramp at County Road 10 will need to seek alternate routes for the coming months.
  • Authorities say they are coordinating bridge repair efforts and will announce the schedule once final plans are in place.
  • Drivers traveling in this corridor should continue to monitor state alerts for updates, closures, and traffic advisories.

This incident underscores the vulnerability of overpass infrastructure to collisions involving oversized loads. Authorities will assess structural damage and prioritize the safe restoration of full traffic capacity as quickly as possible.
