COON RAPIDS, Minn. — October 6, 2025 — The Coon Rapids Senior Center is ushering in autumn with a vibrant lineup of community programs, wellness initiatives, and educational offerings — all capped by a milestone celebration marking the Center’s 50th anniversary.
October kicks off with a Blood Drive on Monday, October 6 at 1 p.m. at the Senior Center. Residents are encouraged to give the gift of life by scheduling an appointment through the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
The highlight of the month comes on Thursday, October 9 at 11 a.m., when the Senior Center celebrates its 50th Anniversary with a festive Oktoberfest-themed celebration. Guests will enjoy live music by Joe Macko, a hearty lunch featuring beef stew, Bavarian pretzel sticks, root beer, and dessert. Attendees are invited to don Oktoberfest attire for the occasion. Doors open at 10:30 a.m., and the cost is $14 due at registration.
Health remains a top priority this fall, with the annual Flu Shot Clinic scheduled for Thursday, October 23, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cub pharmacists will offer both high-dose and standard flu vaccines at no cost to those covered under Medicare Part B, Railroad Medicare, or selected Medicare HMO plans. Appointments are required by calling (763) 767-6473; participants should bring insurance information to their appointment.
The month concludes with the Senior Safety Camp on Monday, October 27, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., hosted by the Coon Rapids Senior Center in partnership with the Coon Rapids Police and Fire Departments. The camp will feature safety presentations, informational booths, and a mini expo with local agencies. Light refreshments and a boxed lunch are included. Cost is $12 due at registration, and doors open at 8:30 a.m.

On Friday, October 10 at 11 a.m., guest presenter JB Anderson will deliver an engaging talk titled “Medical History,” tracing the evolution of medical practices from ancient times to modern-day breakthroughs. The presentation will also highlight the contributions of women in medicine and the development of germ theory. Registration is $6.
For a bit of friendly competition, Bingo returns on Monday, October 13 and 20 at 1 p.m. No registration is required — just $5 at the door for an afternoon of prizes and social fun.
Seniors looking to refresh their driving knowledge can sign up for the Minnesota Safety Council’s 4-hour Defensive Driving Course, which offers a 10% insurance discount for participants every three years. Upcoming in-person sessions are scheduled for Monday, November 3 (8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.) and Monday, December 8 (12–4 p.m.). The cost is $26, and registration is required. Online options are also available through the Minnesota Safety Council.

The final Coon Rapids Farmers Market of the season will take place on Wednesday, October 8, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Coon Rapids Ice Center (11000 Crooked Lake Blvd.). Shoppers can browse an array of locally grown vegetables, honey, flowers, and handcrafted goods from regional artists, crafters, and bakers — a perfect way to celebrate the close of another harvest season.
