Centerville City Council Approves 2026 Preliminary Budget and General Fund Levy

Centerville, MN — The Centerville City Council has approved the preliminary budget for fiscal year 2026, setting the general fund levy at $4,358,694, an 8.17% increase over the 2025 levy of $4,029,435. The proposed general fund budget totals $6,061,232, with property taxes accounting for 71.9% of the revenue. Additional funding will come from intergovernmental revenues, permits and licenses, charges for services, miscellaneous revenues, and interfund transfers.

The budget includes increases for several city departments, notably public safety and public works. The police department’s budget rises by 7.51% to $2,582,435, while the fire department’s budget increases by 19.82% to $446,012. Other departments, including administration, streets, and parks, also see modest increases.

Rising personnel costs are a major factor behind the budget increase, with health insurance premiums up 16% and dental premiums nearly 6%. The city has also planned for a 50/50 split of the new Paid Family Medical Leave premium.

A Truth-in-Taxation hearing will be held on December 11, 2024, where residents can discuss the proposed budget and levy. The final budget and levy will be adopted following this public meeting.
