Coon Rapids Seeks Public Input to Shape the Next Decade of Parks and Recreation

COON RAPIDS, MN — The City of Coon Rapids has launched a new community engagement campaign inviting residents to help shape the future of its parks and recreation system. The effort marks the beginning of an update to the City’s Park and Recreation System Master Plan, which will guide improvements and investments across local parks, trails, and recreational spaces over the next ten years.

City officials are calling on residents to share their “wants, needs, and ideas for updates” to ensure the next decade of planning reflects the community’s evolving priorities. The resulting master plan will play a central role in identifying project costs, setting priorities, and determining potential funding sources for future development.

Two Ways to Participate

Residents can share their feedback in two primary ways:

  • Take a brief survey to provide general input on park and recreation priorities.
  • Add comments directly to the project map, highlighting location-specific ideas or needs.

Both engagement tools are available through the City’s official project website, hosted by ISG Inc. at isginc.mysocialpinpoint.com/coon-rapids-park.

Building on a Decade of Investment

The new planning phase follows a period of substantial progress in Coon Rapids’ park and trail system. Between 2014 and 2024, the City completed approximately $18 million in park and trail improvements, funded through a voter-approved park bond. Those projects delivered upgrades to playgrounds, pathways, and open spaces throughout the community.

Now, city leaders say it’s time to look ahead. Updating the Park and Recreation System Master Plan will ensure the city continues to enhance and maintain facilities that meet residents’ diverse needs while promoting health, accessibility, and community engagement.

A Vision for the Future

According to City officials, the updated plan will help guide decisions on:

  • Future improvement priorities and maintenance schedules
  • Cost estimates for upcoming projects
  • Potential funding sources to sustain development
  • Strategies to ensure equitable access and inclusivity in parks and recreation

The City of Coon Rapids emphasizes that community participation is key to developing a master plan that truly reflects local values and aspirations.

Residents are encouraged to provide input while the engagement tools remain open. For more information or to participate in the survey and project map, visit the City’s Parks and Trails Master Plan page.
