BROOKLYN PARK, MN (July 23, 2026). Brooklyn Park police have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint inside her home, bringing an intensive search to an end hours after authorities warned residents to secure their houses and examine their surveillance cameras.

Police were called to the 7500 block of Jersey Avenue North at approximately 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 22.

According to information released by the Brooklyn Park Police Department, a man entered the victim’s home at approximately 5:30 a.m., held a firearm to her head and sexually assaulted her. The man left before the victim was able to call 911.

Officers searched the surrounding neighborhood but did not immediately locate him.

Police formed dedicated task force

The assault occurred less than one week after a woman reported a similar attack approximately one mile away.

In the earlier case, police responded at about 5 a.m. July 17 to a townhome in the 7600 block of Hampshire Avenue North. The victim told investigators that an unknown man entered her residence, held her at gunpoint, demanded money and sexually assaulted her.

The proximity and reported similarities between the two attacks prompted Brooklyn Park police to organize a dedicated task force.

Authorities asked residents to lock ground-floor doors and windows, review doorbell and exterior-camera recordings and report anyone seen lingering around homes late at night or early in the morning.

SWAT team makes arrest

At approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday, detectives and a SWAT team executed a search warrant in the 7600 block of Hampshire Avenue North. Police said the suspect was taken into custody peacefully.

Authorities announced the arrest at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The man was being held on probable cause of criminal sexual conduct, aggravated robbery and burglary. Those are grounds for an arrest and detention, not formal findings of guilt.

Police believe the suspect may be connected to the previous attack. Investigators have not publicly disclosed the evidence linking the man to either incident.

The suspect’s name had not been released at the time of this report. A charging decision will be made after investigators submit the case to prosecutors.

No public update has been provided concerning the victim’s condition.

The investigation remains active. Residents with video, photographs or other relevant information can contact Brooklyn Park police at 763-493-8222. Anyone witnessing suspicious activity should call 911.
