Police are investigating the early-morning shooting near Payne and Jenks avenues

SAINT PAUL, MN (September 8, 2026). Two men were wounded early Monday after a fight outside a Saint Paul bar escalated into gunfire, according to police.

Officers were called to the area of Payne and Jenks avenues shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday following reports of a shooting near Chances Tavern.

Police found one man outside the business suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Regions Hospital for treatment.

A second man who had also been shot arrived separately at Regions Hospital.

Police said the injuries to both men were not considered life-threatening.

Investigators believe a fight outside the bar preceded the shooting, but authorities have not publicly detailed what started the confrontation or the sequence of events that led to gunfire.

Police also have not publicly established whether either of the wounded men fired a weapon, whether additional people were involved in the shooting or whether the two men were specifically targeted.

No arrest had been publicly announced in the information available Tuesday morning.

The shooting adds another investigation to a period of heightened concern about gun violence across the Twin Cities, although police have not indicated that the Saint Paul incident is connected to any other recent shooting.
