COON RAPIDS, Minn. - The City of Coon Rapids has announced a two day closure of the Coon Rapids Recycling Center for the Christmas holiday, consistent with the city’s official 2025 municipal holiday schedule.

The Recycling Center, located at 1827 111th Ave. NW, will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve) and Thursday, Dec. 25 (Christmas Day). Normal operations will resume on Friday, Dec. 26 at 9 a.m.

Seasonal Hours in Effect

The closure occurs while the facility is operating under its Fall and Winter schedule, which took effect on Oct. 1, 2025, and runs through March 31, 2026. During this period, the Recycling Center is typically open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is closed on Sundays, Mondays, and city recognized holidays.

Because Christmas Eve and Christmas Day fall midweek, residents planning drop offs are encouraged to visit the facility on Tuesday, Dec. 23, or wait until it reopens on Friday, Dec. 26, when regular hours resume.

Curbside Collection Impacts

While the Recycling Center itself will be closed, curbside trash and recycling collection in Coon Rapids is handled by private licensed haulers, and service schedules may shift due to the holiday.

For many households, collection normally scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 25, will be delayed by one day, moving to Friday. However, residents are advised to confirm holiday schedules directly with their hauler, as adjustments may vary by provider. Common haulers in the city include Walters Recycling and Refuse, Republic Services, ACE Solid Waste, and Waste Management.

Services Available After Reopening

When the Recycling Center reopens on Dec. 26, residents will again have access to its full range of services, including:

  • Hard to recycle materials, such as electronics, appliances, and scrap metal, with applicable fees
  • Specialty recycling, including motor oil, antifreeze, and automotive batteries
  • The Reuse Room, where residents may drop off or take usable household items such as paint, cleaners, and automotive fluids at no cost
  • Bulk cardboard and paper recycling, particularly helpful for post holiday packaging and non metallic, non glitter wrapping paper

Additional Information

Residents seeking more details on accepted materials, fees, or holiday operations can visit the city’s official recycling webpage at coonrapidsmn.gov/Recycling. Questions may also be directed to Recycling Coordinator Colleen Sinclair at 763 767 6485.

The city encourages residents to plan ahead during the holiday week to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible disposal of materials.
