COON RAPIDS, Minn. In observance of the Christmas holiday, the City of Coon Rapids has confirmed that its primary municipal facilities will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24, and Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025, with normal operations resuming on Friday, Dec. 26.

City officials said the temporary shutdown aligns with the city’s annual holiday calendar and allows municipal employees to observe the holiday while ensuring that essential public safety services remain uninterrupted.

City offices

The Coon Rapids City Center, located at 11155 Robinson Drive, will be closed both days. Under normal conditions, city offices operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. City services will fully resume on Friday, Dec. 26, at 8 a.m.

Recycling Center

The Coon Rapids Recycling Center, located at 1827 111th Avenue NW, will also be closed on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25. The facility is currently operating under its winter schedule, which runs from Oct. 1 through March 31 and typically includes hours from Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Recycling Center is scheduled to reopen on Friday, Dec. 26, at 9 a.m.

Residents planning post-holiday cleanups are encouraged to hold recyclable materials until the facility reopens.

Curbside trash and recycling collection

Because Christmas Day falls on a Thursday this year, residents who receive curbside service from private haulers may experience minor delays. Most major waste providers, including Walters, Republic, ACE, and Waste Management, typically shift Thursday collections to Friday, Dec. 26. City officials recommend that residents confirm schedules directly with their specific hauler, as policies can vary.

Public safety and regional services

Emergency services will remain fully operational throughout the holiday. The Coon Rapids Police and Fire Departments will continue to provide 24 hour emergency response. However, police administrative offices will follow the same closure schedule as other city offices.

At the regional level, Anoka County offices generally observe a similar holiday schedule, often closing at noon on Christmas Eve and remaining closed all day on Christmas Day. While Dec. 24 is not a federal holiday, residents should note that many local post offices and bank branches may operate with reduced hours. All federal offices and banks will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 25.

Holiday recycling reminders

When the Recycling Center reopens on Dec. 26, residents may drop off common holiday-related items, including flattened cardboard boxes. Plain wrapping paper is accepted, but foil, glitter, and metallic papers are not recyclable. Holiday light strands are typically accepted as scrap metal or electronic waste rather than in curbside recycling bins.

City officials encourage residents to plan ahead during the holiday week and to consult the city website or service providers for the most up-to-date scheduling information.
