BROOKLYN PARK, Minn., January 14, 2026
Brooklyn Park police have arrested three individuals in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 13, at the Park Haven Apartments in the 6900 block of 76th Avenue North, near Kentucky Avenue North.
According to the Brooklyn Park Police Department, officers were dispatched to the apartment complex at approximately 2:45 a.m. following a report of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound within the complex. Police immediately rendered first aid before the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have not released the victim’s name, pending notification of family.
Brooklyn Park police detectives, working in coordination with the Hennepin County Crime Scene Investigations unit, pursued leads throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday. The investigation culminated in the arrest of three suspects at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
Police confirmed that those taken into custody include two adult males and one juvenile male. Due to the involvement of a juvenile, authorities have limited the release of additional details related to the suspects’ identities and alleged roles.
While the police department did not publicly name any suspects in its initial homicide alert, jail records and secondary law enforcement sources identify Cornelius Eugene Jordan, 18, as one of the adults being held on probable cause in connection with the homicide. As of Wednesday night, formal charges had not yet been filed, and all suspects remain in custody pending charging decisions by the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.
Investigators have not publicly confirmed the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Preliminary information referenced in early reports suggests the incident may have occurred during a gathering or party at the apartment complex. Police have not officially verified that detail and say the investigation remains active.
No additional suspects are currently being sought, and authorities have not indicated whether the shooting was targeted or random.
The Park Haven Apartments and the surrounding 76th Avenue North corridor have previously been the site of violent incidents, including a fatal shooting in late 2020. In the aftermath of Tuesday’s homicide, some residents have expressed renewed concerns about safety in the area.
The incident comes amid heightened community tension and law enforcement activity across parts of the Twin Cities metro, as local leaders and residents continue to grapple with issues of public safety, violence prevention, and community trust.
Brooklyn Park police say additional information will be released as charges are filed and court proceedings begin.
